AMC THEATRES TO SCREEN “SEE HER BE HER” ACROSS THE UNITED STATES
IN COLLABORATION WITH DOLBY
IN SUPPORT OF LITTLE LEAGUE’S “GIRLS WITH GAME” PROGRAM
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 6, 2025): Grassroots Baseball announced today the launch of its United States tour in partnership with Dolby Laboratories and AMC Theatres, to screen their new documentary SEE HER BE HER.
The 2025 12-city SEE HER BE HER Tour will coincide with the Major League Baseball season, kicking off in February when pitchers and catchers report, and concluding in the fall, when a World Series champion is crowned.
Each tour stop will include a screening followed by a Q&A with a panel of women baseball experts and book signing of Grassroots Baseball’s companion book, “See Her Be Her.” Proceeds from ticket and book sales will benefit Little League International’s “Girls with Game” program to increase opportunities for girls in baseball. All students, eight years of age and older, will be admitted free of charge.
The SEE HER BE HER Tour will kick off in a special screening in San Francisco at Dolby Laboratories’ Headquarters on February 22 at 2:00pm PT. The Tour will continue on to select Dolby Cinema at AMC locations in the greater Phoenix market in March during Spring Training, and then on to select Dolby Cinema at AMC locations in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, DC. A complete tour schedule and how to attend a showing of SEE HER BE HER can be found at www.seeherbeher.com
Grassroots Baseball’s feature-length film is about women’s baseball around the globe and follows the lives of seven stars who are at the pinnacle of their game and represent the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, South Korea, Cuba and Uganda. In the intense battle for the World Cup Championship, they want victory — for themselves, for their team, for their countries, and for the sheer love of the game—but their greatest triumph is the path they are blazing for future generations of female players.
“We created SEE HER BE HER to provide visibility with the hope of creating more opportunities for girls and women around the world to play the game. And for all the girls and women watching, to see her, they can also dream to one day be her,” said Grassroots Baseball co-founder and the film’s director and producer, Jean Fruth. “We could not be more thankful to Dolby and AMC Theatres for helping us to deliver this important program which will increase exposure for women’s baseball and help Little League Baseball grow its ‘Girls with Game’ program.”
"Our mission centers on championing impactful narratives and empowering creatives to share their stories and voices with the world," said Joan Scott, Senior Director, Social Impact & Sustainability at Dolby Laboratories. "We are happy to have played a part in the SEE HER BE HER tour by collaborating with Grassroots Baseball to kick off the inaugural screening and help spread awareness of their mission."
"We are proud to partner with Dolby and Grassroots Baseball to bring SEE HER BE HER to audiences across the country, shining a light on the incredible women shaping the future of baseball,” said Ryan Noonan, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Public Relations, AMC. “By showcasing their stories in the glorious cinematic experience of Dolby Cinema at AMC, we hope to help empower the next generation of female athletes and fans."

Sports Icon and Equality Champion Billie Jean King named Executive Producer of See Her Be Her Documentary
Film to premiere on MLB Network during World Series
San Francisco, CA (August 28, 2024) – Grassroots Baseball, the organization behind the making of See Her Be Her, a documentary on women’s baseball around the globe, today announced that the legendary Billie Jean King has joined the team as an Executive Producer.
King, widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all-time with an astonishing 39 Grand Slam titles and three World Team Tennis championships, is a longtime champion for women’s sports, social justice and equality. She is the founder of the Women’s Sports Foundation, the Billie Jean King Foundation and the Women’s Tennis Association and is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. She was the first female athlete to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The film’s director and producer, acclaimed sports photojournalist Jean Fruth, and co-producer and former National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum President Jeff Idelson, recently met with King. The goals of the film — to increase visibility and create more opportunities for girls and women to play — immediately resonated with her.
“Jean and Jeff share a longtime commitment and passion for See Her Be Her and the important message it sends,” said King. “Baseball was my first true love, but I never got the chance to play because I was a girl. It is my hope that See Her Be Her will encourage girls and women to pursue their dreams no matter what others say is possible, and that one day soon women once again have a league of our own.”
See Her Be Her is set to premiere on MLB Network between Games 2 and 3 of the 2024 World Series. In addition, Grassroots Baseball is exploring streaming options to ensure that millions of girls around the world have the chance to see the film and be inspired by its stories.
Fruth added, “We are thrilled that Billie Jean has joined us to promote the story of girls and women in baseball around the world, their fight for inclusion and the opportunity to play the sport they love. Her support, as an advocate for equality in sports, means the world to us. We could not be more grateful and excited to have her serve as executive producer.”
The story follows the lives of seven women baseball stars who are at the pinnacle of their game and represent the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, South Korea, Cuba, and Uganda. In the intense battle for the World Cup Championship, they want victory — for themselves, for their team, for their countries, and for the sheer love of the game — but their greatest triumph is the path they are blazing for future generations of female players.
See Her Be Her shatters a variety of stereotypes, as the seven players — through perseverance and resilience — push the boundaries of what’s possible both on and off the field. The film highlights their resolve to fight for gender equality for all female athletes.
See Her Be Her will have a companion book of the same name that will be available in October and will be the third book in the Grassroots Baseball series, following the success of 2019’s Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin and Grassroots Baseball: Route 66, which came out in 2022. Grassroots Baseball has also developed a dedicated landing page to support the film: www.seeherbeher.com.

“SEE HER BE HER” DOCUMENTARY TO PREMIERE ON MLB NETWORK
Film Celebrates Women in Baseball Around the World
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Oct 1, 2024) – Grassroots Baseball® cofounders Jean Fruth and Jeff Idelson announced today that SEE HER BE HER, a documentary on women’s baseball around the globe, will premiere on the MLB Network between Games 2 & 3 of the 2024 World Series.
The story follows the lives of seven women baseball stars who are at the pinnacle of their game and represent the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, South Korea, Cuba and Uganda. In the intense battle for the World Cup Championship, they want victory — for themselves, for their team, for their countries, and for the sheer love of the game—but their greatest triumph is the path they are blazing for future generations of female players.
SEE HER BE HER shatters a variety of stereotypes, as the seven players—through perseverance and resilience—push the boundaries of what’s possible both on and off the field. The film highlights their resolve to fight for gender equality for all female athletes.
The film is directed and produced by acclaimed sports photographer Jean Fruth and produced by Jeff Idelson, former president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.
Additionally, sports icon and equality champion Billie Jean King, former Milwaukee Brewers President, CEO and Chairman Wendy Selig-Prieb, and Misdee Wrigley Miller, the granddaughter of AAGPBL founder Phil Wrigley, have all joined the Grassroots Baseball team, serving as executive producers.
“It is time to shine an overdue spotlight on these unsung ‘sheroes’ who are paving the way for the next generation of women athletes,” said Fruth. “It is our hope that with this documentary, and with their example, the message is clear: If they see her, they can dream to one day be her. Our journey took us through seven regions on three continents over three years and resulted in over 500 hours of original footage and more than 100 interviews.”
“Jean and Jeff share a longtime commitment and passion for SEE HER BE HER and the important message it sends,” said Billie Jean King. “Baseball was my first true love, but I never got the chance to play because I was a girl. It is my hope that SEE HER BE HER will encourage girls and women to pursue their dreams no matter what others say is possible, and that one day soon women once again have a league of our own.”
The documentary also features Hall of Famers Cal Ripken, Jr., Tony Pérez and Ferguson Jenkins, as well as retired major league superstars Ichiro Suzuki, Chan Ho Park and Jimmy Rollins, all of whom strongly support the women’s game.
Idelson added, “SEE HER BE HER shares the story of the fight for equality, recognition and acceptance that women still face in baseball today. Through their courage and determination, they are inspiring a new generation of young girls to break free from the constraints of gender stereotypes and lift women’s baseball to the levels their counterparts have achieved in basketball, hockey, soccer and tennis.”
“The timeliness of SEE HER BE HER is perfectly aligned with the excellence we are seeing in women’s sports today,” said Claire Smith, the first female beat reporter in MLB history and first female recipient of the BBWAA Career Excellence Award, and acknowledged in the Hall of Fame, in 2017. “The hope is that millions of women across the globe can get a chance to see this film and feel inspired to follow their passions and live full lives of great impact. This look into the everyday unsung heroes that are part of this documentary is a celebration of poise and perseverance and a story that needed to be told. Win or lose, no matter where life takes them, these women have already triumphed.”
“As someone who knows how important a role model can be, I’m thrilled that Grassroots Baseball is promoting girls and women involved in the sport I love,” added Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr. “The girls’ game is growing around the globe, and women are already making an impact as executives, coaches, trainers and groundskeepers. As minds become more open and the gender gap narrows, women will continue to change the game for the better and for good. It meant so much to me to get to play alongside my dad. I hope that one day I get to see a young woman play alongside her mom in a major league game.
Grassroots Baseball has also developed a dedicated landing page to support the film: www.seeherbeher.com. The landing page features the trailer of the documentary, additional photos and footage from See Her Be Her and the soon-to-be-released companion book of the same name, quotes from key figures in the film and more.
SEE HER BE HER will have a companion book that will be available in October and will be the third book in the Grassroots Baseball series, following the success of 2019’s Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin and Grassroots Baseball: Route 66, which came out in 2022.
